Michigan Legislature Not OK with Education Settlement Pushed by Whitmer

A representative for the Michigan Legislatures argued neither the House nor Senate consented to a settlement agreement between Detroit students and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer regarding literacy access. So reports The Detroit News.

open book 1428428 640The settlement features $94.5 million in literacy funding and $280,000 for each of seven plaintiffs, among other provisions. However, the attorney representing the Legislature said the deal was meant to “lock in a favorable ruling and avoid further review by a federal appeals court,” the article reads. It has asked for further judicial review of the matter.
