California to Pay $50M Settlement for Not Teaching Kids to Read

The state of California agreed to a $50 million settlement after being sued for failing to teach low-income students of color how to read. So reports Cal Matters.

Recently, California reworked its funding formula to provide more money to schools with disadvantaged students. The 2020-2021 budget proposed by the governor’s office would create $600 million in grants for low-performing schools, the story reads.
