NAACP Calls Foul in Arkansas Court Elections, Files Suit

The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund has filed a federal lawsuit questioning the method used to elect judges in the state’s Court of Appeals and Supreme Court. So reports the Arkansas Times.

The suit alleges the method is discriminatory to black voters. No black person has ever been elected to the Supreme Court, although some have been appointed. Arkie Byrd and Shearman and Sterling, a global firm headquartered in New York, are the lawyers representing the plaintiffs.
