Montana Anti-fraud Law Disenfranchises Native Americans: Lawsuit

Voting rights advocates filed a lawsuit in Montana on behalf of Native Americans who claim the state’s recently enacted Ballot Interference Prevention Act restricts their ability to cast ballots. So reports The Hill.

ballot 1294935 640 smallWhile a large portion of the state’s residents use the mail to cast ballots, Native American reservations are often isolated and lack postal service. Many Native Americans rely on voting groups to transport their ballots, but the lawsuit claims the new law severely restricts that process. However, Montana Secretary of State Corey Stapleton said it was passed with wide support from residents, including indigenous people.
