Apple Suit Against Ex-Exec Could Change Calif. Startup Landscape

A lawsuit between a former Apple Inc. executive and the company will have far reaching ramifications for California’s startup and tech industries. So reports Reuters.

california 160522 1280Apple is suing Gerard Williams III after he allegedly began working on a new business endeavor while still on Apple’s payroll. Williams spent nine years as the top architect developing the processors powering iPhones and iPads.

Williams’ agreement with Apple requires he not “plan or engage in any other employment” to compete with Apple, but he has argued the contract was unenforceable as California law permits employees to make certain preparations while at their current job.
