Courts Differ on Vaginal, Anal Cavity Inspections

After eight years, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit ruled in a split 2-1 decision that a training exercise involving strip searches of naked female prisoners was legal since the guards did not physically probe them during the search. So reports The Washington Post.

The event in question took place at the Lincoln Correctional Center in Illinois, and according to reports, involved women spreading their anal and vaginal cavities for inspection. Separately, that same day, a Los Angeles County settlement awarded $53 million, the largest of its kind in the county, to inmates who claimed their Fourth Amendment rights were violated during a “mass visual body cavity search.”
