'Unusual' Lawsuit Leads to $50M Settlement for UC San Diego

The University of Southern California agreed to pay the University of California, San Diego $50 million to settle "a highly unusual" poaching lawsuit. So reports Inside Higher Ed.

The lawsuit involved an accusation that USC hired a "world-class Alzheimer's researcher," Paul Aisen, from UC San Diego. The dispute arose after Aisen allegedly agreed to take federal funds, data and employees with him after accepting a "lucrative position" at his new university. USC has also been in recent hot water regarding an admissions scandal, drug use and sexual assault allegations.
