Jail Workers Charged with Killing Arrestee Who Died in Restraining Chair in Cell

Three ex-employees of a county jail in Georgia have been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of a college student who died there. So reports the Associated Press.

The deceased 21-year-old, Mathew Ajibade, was found dead strapped to a restraining chair in one of the jail’s isolation cells. The coroner determined that Ajibade, who had been arrested because of a fight with his girlfriend, had died in the jail as a result of blunt-force trauma.

Ajibade injured three deputies when he was being booked. His family says he suffered from bipolar disorder and might have been suffering a manic episode when he was arrested.
