‘Legal Genius’ Pleads Guilty to Stealing Police Reports to Get Clients

Matthew Schwartz, the owner Legal Genius P.L.L.C. pleaded guilty to charges related to defrauding the IRS and stealing “unapproved” police crash reports as a way to target accident victims. So reports WXYZ, an ABC affiliate.

For at least four year, Schwartz and his co-conspirators took Detroit Police Department reports, some not yet available to the public, in order to “solicit crash victims for personal injury lawyers, chiropractors, health care professionals, and other businesses,” according to the article.

As a result of his foul play, Schwartz faces up to five years prison time for each count and a $250,000 fine.
