Orangutan Who Was Ruled a 'Non-human Person' Retires to Florida

Sandra, an orangutan granted legal personhood in a 2015 ruling, has moved to Florida and will retire to the Center for Great Apes. So reports Newsweek.

Judge Elena Liberatori ruled Sandra was legally a "non-human person" and entitled to certain legal rights given to humans, including better living conditions. Sandra will be afforded a chance to meet other orangutans at her leisure, a "new freedom for her."
