States Lacking Lawyers in Rural Areas Offer Subsidies

Whole sections of states like South Dakota—where 65% of the lawyers live in four urban areas—are in danger of not having access to legal services, reports the New York Times.

Last month, that state passed a law that offers lawyers who make a five-year commitment an annual subsidy of $12,000, which is 90% of the cost of a year at the University of South Dakota Law School.
