R.I. Education System in Crosshairs of Federal Lawsuit

A federal lawsuit claims the Rhode Island education system does not provide students constitutionally-mandated preparation for life in democracy. So reports The Providence Journal.

The suit was filed in U.S. District Court on behalf of 14 students by the Rhode Island Center for Justice and a New York law professor. Statistics provided by the plaintiffs suggest too many students do not understand the basic functions of government. The lawsuit is believed to be the first of its kind.
