Court Rules in Favor of Colorado Baker in Gay Wedding Cake Case

In a 7-2 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court said Colorado baker Jack Phillips was within his First Amendment rights when he refused to bake a cake for a gay couple getting married. So reports Reuters.

Philips said making the cake would infringe upon his Christian beliefs. The court did not, however, issue a broader ruling regarding the circumstances permitting people to use religion as a shield from anti-discrimination laws, nor did it rule on if cake baking is an "expressive act" under the Constitution. 

Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor dissented.
