Settlement: Macmillan Lifts e-Book Retailer Discount Restriction

Holtzbrinck Publishers LLC, which does business as Macmillan, has agreed to, among other things, immediately lift its restrictions on discounts by e-book retailers.

The deal is part of settlement of the Department of Justice's case alleging Macmillan and five other publishers conspired to raise e-book prices in violation of federal antitrust law, according to a recent article from the Legal Times.

Four of the other five defendant publishers in the case have already settled with the DOJ, leaving Apple Inc. as the sole defendant left in the case. Apple’s case is pending in Manhattan federal court.
