4-4 SCOTUS Tie Blocks NC Voting Law

After a federal appeals court struck down parts of North Carolina’s voting law deemed to target African Americans, the Supreme Court of the United Stated affirmed the ruling in a 4-4 tie. So reports The New York Times.

The law required new voter identification requirements in 2013, but civil rights groups and President Obama filed suit and argued the law violated the Voting Rights Act and the Constitution. The Supreme Court’s traditionally conservative members choose to restore the provisions.
