Calif Law Could Shut Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

A new California state law that requires medical marijuana distributors to get a license may shutter some dispensaries if their proprietors have drug felony arrests on their record. So reports the Los Angeles Times.

The law would require a license to operate the facilities be obtained by 2018. “Industry leaders say the new law could hurt hundreds of growers and sellers who planned to apply for state licenses but who have felony drug convictions on their records,” according to information from the story.

Some 25%-30% of cannabis cultivators in the California Grower’s Association could see their operations closed as a result of the law. Legislation is being considered that would exempt some felons if certain conditions are met.
