SoHo Landlord Files $100k Suit Against Tenant Who Impersonated Son of Famous Designer

The landlord of a Manhattan apartment that rents for $15,000 a month is asking a state court to break the apartment’s current lease and order the apartment’s current tenant, who claimed to be Diane von Furstenberg’s son, to pay $100,000 in back rent. So reports The New York Daily News.

Corey von Furstenberg allegedly adopted the surname von Furstenberg to suggest a relationship with the designer Diane von Furstenberg. The landlord says that when he rented the apartment to the tenant, he relied on the information supplied by the tenant’s lawyer. The lawyer allegedly told the landlord that his client had an income of $1 million from his own marketing firm, more than $4 million from his trust fund and portfolio worth more than $100 million.

The lawyer claims his tenant didn’t pay rent because the landlord failed to provide basic services, such as gas for the kitchen. While NYC Department of Building records do show that the gas was shut off for illegal siphoning for several months, public records also suggest that Corey von Furstenberg was evicted in 2012 from two other Manhattan buildings.
