Law Limitating Church Signs More Than Other Signs Must Fall: Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court unanimously struck down an Arizona law limiting church signs significantly more than the posting of other types of signs. So reports The New York Times.

The justices did, however, disagree about the reason why the law isn’t permissible. The six-justice majority classified the sign law as content-based law, thereby subjecting it to the court’s strictest scrutiny. The concurring three judges disagreed with the majority about what constitutes content-based law, but wrote that the Arizona law is nevertheless impermissible because of the distinctions it draws.
