Federal Suit: Four Cancer Charities Are Scams

The FTC and prosecutors in all 50 states filed a suit claiming that four self-described cancer charities spent only 3% of the donations they collected for the causes they professed to support. So reports The New York Daily News.

The rest of the money was spent on professional fundraisers and recreational activities, like trips and dating services. Filed in Federal Court in Arizona, the suit named the Children’s Cancer Fund of America, the Breast Cancer Society, the Cancer Fund of America and Cancer Support Services. The first two organizations have entered into settlement agreements that require them to close down and pay heavy fines.
