Missing Child’s Parents Win Defamation Suit Against Accuser

A Portuguese court has ordered an ex-police officer to pay $549,000 to a British couple who he claimed faked their own child’s abduction. So reports The Guardian.

The couple, Kate and Gerry McCann, filed the libel suit over statements that the Portuguese police officer, Goncalo Amaral, made in his book, “The Truth of the Lie.” In the book, Amaral stated that the McCanns were involved in the disappearance of their then 3-year-old from a southern Portugal resort in 2007.
