Florida Senators Move Ahead with Gun Law Plans Sans Assault Weapon Ban

Florida lawmakers voted to raise the legal age to purchase a firearm to 21 years old and allow teachers to carry guns in school. However, they rejected an amendment to ban semi-automatic, "assault" style weapons. So reports The New York Post.

The measures were taken up by the Senate Rules Committee and were subsequently sent to the House Rules Committee. Sen. Oscar Branynon rejected the proposal to arm teachers, and said he is concerned "black fathers across Florida" will have to include teachers in the discussion about how to act toward "armed authority figures," the article reads.
