DeVos to Revamp Title IX Instruction for Campus Sexual Assault Cases

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos plans to improve on Obama-era Title IX guidance because it does not adequately address the needs of sexual assault survivors and ensure due process. So reports NBC News.

DeVos said she plans to put in place a “workable, effective and fair system.” She plans to solicit public comment before repealing the previous administration’s guidance.

Critics fear changes to the process could erase progress made combatting sexual assault, while supporters said they believe new guidance will improve fairness and protect due process. Opponents of President Obama’s directive said the “preponderance of evidence” standard of proof in Title IX sexual assault cases should be replaced with the stricter standard of “clear and convincing evidence," according to the article.
