El Chapo Lawyers: Jail Conditions Violate Constitutional Rights

Lawyers for Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman argued his First, Fifth and Sixth Amendment rights are being violated as a result of his prison conditions. So reports CBS News.

Defenders for Guzman took issue with the amount of daylight Guzman is exposed to and access to warm clothing considering the “erratic air-conditioning,” the article reads. Guzman is confined to his cell for 23 hours a day during the week and all day on weekends.

His lawyers have also argued his right to counsel is being violated, as he has not had contact with his family who could help find new legal representation. Guzman pleaded not guilty to charges related to running a drug trafficking ring, laundering billions of dollars and for his role in “murders and kidnappings,” according to the article.
