Bergdahl Attorneys Seek Dismissal Based on Trump Comments

Lawyers for U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl will ask the charges against their client be dropped based on comments President Donald Trump made while campaigning. So reports Newsweek.

After Trump “repeatedly” called Bergdahl a “traitor,” the defense said it would be impossible for him to enjoy an unbiased trial. The motion will be made to the U.S. Army Court of Criminal Appeals in Virginia.

Bergdahl spent five years in Taliban captivity after leaving his post in 2009 and has been court-martialed for desertion and endangerment of U.S. troops. The court-martial is scheduled to begin in April and could result in a life sentence for Bergdahl.
