Brooklyn Courts Overwhelmed by Foreclosure Cases

Mortgage foreclosures currently account for more than a third of all civil cases in New York State courts, with only 6,000 fewer new ones filed last year than were filed at the height of the housing collapse in 2009. So reports The New York Daily News.

Only three of the nearly 50 judges in Brooklyn’s civil division are charged with handling the borough’s backlog of nearly 12,000 foreclosure cases. One of those judges reports having 100 such cases scheduled a day.
