Man Who Secretly Drugged Girlfriend to Force Miscarriage Sentenced to 9 Years in Prison

A restaurateur who Los Angeles prosecutors say forced his girlfriend to abort their child against her will by secretly drugging her has been sentenced to nine years in prison. So reports The New York Daily News.

The defendant, Joshua Woodward, pleaded no contest to attempted murder. Prosecutors say he secretly administered then 39-year-old Gail Greaves with the early-term abortion drug misoprostol both orally and vaginally, during foreplay, shortly before she miscarried in October 2009. Greaves became suspicious after she noticed a powdery substance in her underwear after an intimate encounter with Woodward. She miscarried several hours later.
