Florida Jury Delivers $23B Verdict Against RJ Reynolds

A Florida jury awarded $23 billion in punitive damages to a woman claiming her husband died of lung cancer because the tobacco industry hid smoking risks. So reports CNN.

The woman’s husband died of lung cancer in 1996, when he was 36 years old, after decades of chain smoking, which he began when he was just 13. Public awareness campaigns on tobacco risks and dangers didn’t begin until the 1990s.
