Merger May Create New Top 10 Law Firm

Merger talks between Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman are well underway. So reports The New York Times’ DealBook.

If the two law firms, which both have historical roots on the West Coast, do wind up combining forces, it will result in a new entrant into the Top 10 largest law firms. Once relatively rare, mergers among the nation’s top 100 law firms are on the rise, as firms struggle to break into new practice areas, and larger corporate law practices have come to be associated with stronger brands.
