The deal creates a “net of legal protections for people applying for driver's privilege cards, no matter their immigration status.” One provision of the settlement is the state will need to spend $100,000 in implicit bias training for DMV staff as well as requiring them to follow fair policing rules, like the prohibition of sharing immigration status. Human rights group Migrant Justice, sued the Vermont DMV after workers doled out personal data on unlicensed immigrants to the federal government.
