Derby Controversy Heading to Federal Court

The owners of Maximum Security, the horse disqualified in the Kentucky Derby, filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. So reports the Paulick Report.

Mary and Gary West initially challenged the disqualification, but the racing commission denied them as racing steward’s decisions are “final and not subject to appeal.” The lawsuit seeks to reinstate Maximum Security as the winner of the race, and accuses the initial decision of being “bizarre and unconstitutional.”
