James Baker and Comey Worried Steel Dossier May Wrongly Be Seen as 'Blackmailing' Trump

Ex-FBI attorney James Baker said he and former director James Comey were concerned Comey would incorrectly be seen as “blackmailing” President-elect Donald Trump by informing him of the “salacious” allegations in the Steele dossier. So reports Real Clear Politics.

"Jim Comey and I had spoken many times in the past about the negative legacy of Director Hoover with respect to things having to do with blackmail and that type of thing," Baker is quoted as saying in the article. "We were very worried about creating any type of impression like that. Our impression was this was about to leak in the press. We decided this was the right thing to do. We thought that would be even worse to know this information and not tell the president-elect."
