Teen Faces Manslaughter Charges For Convincing Boyfriend to Commit Suicide

A teenager who exchanged hundreds of messages in which she tried to convince her suicidal boyfriend to kill himself is facing manslaughter charges in juvenile court in Massachusetts. So reports The Washington Post.

The teen, Michelle Carter, was 17 when Conrad Roy III, an 18-year-old boy she’d met online, killed himself using a gas-powered water pump. Prosecutors claim Carter sent him messages counseling him to end his life and researching painless methods of suicide before he eventually went through with it.

Carter’s attorneys argue the charges against her should be dropped because her messages were protected by free speech.
