VA Teen Sentenced to 11 Years for ISIS Recruitment Efforts

A 17-year-old who was the voice behind a pro-Islamic State Twitter account has been sentenced to 11 years and four months in federal prison for conspiring to provide material support to terrorists. So reports the Washington Post.

The teen, Northern Virginia resident Ali Amin, admitted to the charge. Prosecutors say Amin bolstered the terrorist group’s online profile, and that his efforts resulted in the successful recruitment of 18-year-old Reza Niknejad, whom Amin helped travel to Syria. Amin’s defense attorneys said he was just a troubled adolescent who actually had little influence.
