California Strikes Down Sex Offenders’ Residency Restrictions

California’s state supreme court has struck down a prohibition against registered sex offenders in the Golden State from living within 2,000 feet of a school or park. So reports the San Francisco Gate.

The residency restriction was a part of Jessica’s Law, legislation that was enacted by approximately 70% of California voters in November 2006. It effectively blocked the sex offenders from living in California’s large cities, resulting in homelessness for 80% of San Francisco’s sex offenders, according to one study.
