The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ordered Honda Motor to pay a record $70 million in fines for failing to report hundreds of death, injury, and warranty claims to the agency for the last 11 years. So reports The New York Times.
Many of the claims involved airbags made by the Japanese supplier Takata that can explode violently when they deploy. Honda was required to report the claims pursuant to an Early Warning Reporting system established in 2000 and intended to give the agency better access to accident data.
