The U.S. Department of Justice early this month sent a letter to the Louisiana Supreme Court stating that the Bayou State’s attorney licensure system discriminates against bar applicants with disabilities by asking prospective lawyers questions about their mental health diagnoses and treatments. So reports the ABA Journal.
The letter indicated that the DOJ is ready to work with the National Conference of Bar Examiners to develop new questions that do not violate federal law. The DOJ’s civil rights division sent a similar letter to the Vermont Human Rights Commission several weeks ago.
