Dylann Roof’s Lawyers Point to Mental Illness in Death Penalty Appeal

Lawyers representing Dylann Roof, who was sentenced to die after killing nine black churchgoers in a Charleston church five years ago, are appealing his conviction. So reports The New York Daily News.

jail 1287943 1280They argued mental illness prohibited him from being able to represent himself and filed a legal brief with the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond toward that end. The lawyers also argued witness testimony biased the jurors as some used “inflammatory” and “dehumanizing” language.
