Baltimore Reaches $8M Settlement with Police Trainee Shot in Head

The city of Baltimore’s spending panel signed off on an $8 million settlement for a police trainee said to have suffered brain damage and "other serious injuries "when he was accidentally shot in the head during an exercise in 2013." So reports The Baltimore Sun.

The settlement was designed to avoid costly litigation related to Raymond Gray, a University of Maryland recruit shot by William Kern, a Baltimore Police Department training officer. The settlement was one of the largest in the city's history. Kern was convicted on reckless endangerment charges and sentenced to 18 months jail time. He was also fired.
