Michigan Weighs Options in ‘Ballot Selfie’ Lawsuit

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is considering a settlement in the federal “ballot selfie” case, which is aiming to overturn the state’s blanket ban on the practice. So reports The Detroit News.

Former Secretary of State Ruth Johnson initially sought to dismiss the case and defended the ban, but Benson requested a delay until April while considering other options. Separately, some lawmakers have sought to remove the ban via legislation, arguing the pictures are protected by the First Amendment’s free speech clause.
