Chevron On the Hook for Record-setting Settlement with EPA, DOJ

Chevron will replace vulnerable pipes and improve inspections as part of a settlement with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, U.S. Department of Justice and Environmental Protection Agency. So reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

Chevron was accused of repeatedly violating the Clean Air Act. Chevron’s practices were called into question after a 2012 refinery fire.

The company will pay $2.95 million in civil penalties and a total settlement of more than $160 million. It is the largest settlement since the EPA began enforcing the Risk Management Plan Rule of the Clean Air Act.
