Calif. Seating Law at Heart of Record-setting $65M Walmart Deal

Walmart Inc. will pay $65 million to settle a lawsuit alleging the company violated California law by denying cashiers seating while they work. So reports Reuters.

Close to 100,000 past and present cashiers will collect on the deal, assuming approval from a federal judge. This represents the largest settlement under California’s Private Attorney General Act, which allows workers to sue employers on behalf of the state and then keep a portion of the money.

The company will also begin providing seating to cashiers as a result of the agreement.
