Muslim Women Forced to Remove Hijabs During Mugshots Settle for $60K

Three Muslim women agreed to settlement terms with New York City after being forced to remove their hijabs to take mug shot photos. So reports The New York Times.

Each will receive $60,000. The women were arraigned for their initial criminal charges, but none were convicted and their records were sealed. As of 2012, the New York Police Department patrol guide offered no specific instructions on how to handle religious coverings, and some precincts and booking facilities allowed Muslim women to wear their head coverings, while others did not.
