Seeking to Avoid Death Penalty, Halloween Terror Attacker Seeks Plea Deal

Lawyers for the Sayfullo Saipov, the Uzbek man charged for the Halloween attack that left eight dead on a Manhattan bike path, said Saipov would plead guilty and serve a life prison sentence in exchange for a guarantee he doesn't get the death penalty. So reports The New York Times.

One of Saipov’s federal public defenders said a plea agreement would "obviate" the need for families of the victims to prepare for a trial and, if given the death penalty, would "prevent years of appeals," the story reads. The government has not indicated its intention to seek the death penalty.
