‘Rastafarian’ Inmate: Forced Haircuts Violate My Civil Rights

Cecil Koger, an inmate at the Trumbull Correctional Institution in Ohio, is suing the prison for violating his civil rights after cutting his dreadlocks multiple times. So reports The New York Daily News.

Koger said his religion, Rastafarianism, requires him to wear his hair in dreads and has filed a federal lawsuit on religious grounds. During one haircut, he said, he was sprayed with a chemical and bound in shackles.

Dreadlocks are one of the hairstyles banned in the prison, however, Koger said others have been allowed to wear them. He is serving a 33-year sentence for aggravated robbery and aggravated murder.
