Farooqui was accused of raping the woman in his home after offering to help with her thesis. The Delhi High Court called the victim’s account into question and considered whether Farooqui comprehended the victim’s “lack of consent.”

Farooqui, who was married at the time of the alleged incident, was serving a seven year prison sentence leading up to the appeal.
