NH Prison Drug-Smuggling at Heart of Mail Policy Settlement

An agreement was reached regarding how New Hampshire’s prison mail is handled after certain types of paper were banned. So reports the Associated Press.

Prison officials banned heavy paper and card-stock after Suboxone, a heroin addiction treatment drug, was found under stickers and stamps, allowing inmates to get high. As a result of the settlement--brought after a lawsuit was filed seeking to remedy an inmate being denied a Thanksgiving card from his 3-year-old son-- certain “pen-and-pencil drawings” and photocopies of cards and drawings will be permitted as long as they are not on greeting cards or thick stationary.
