LGBTQ Advocate Nessel Running for Michigan AG  

LGBTQ advocate and criminal defense lawyer Dana Nessel announced she is running for state attorney general in Michigan. So reports NBC News.

Nessel, a Democrat, helped win the battle against the state's gay marriage ban. Nessel is hoping to replace Republican Bill Schuette who is expected to run for governor.

Nessel's platform includes prosecuting hate crimes, protecting consumers and suing to close the oil pipelines running underneath the Straits of Mackinac. A graduate of the University of Michigan and Wayne State University’s law school, she led the charge to amend the state constitution to "prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity," the article reads.
