Allegedly Doctored Medical Research Leads to $10M Settlement

The Brigham and Women’s Hospital and its parent organization agreed to a $10 million settlement with the U.S. government after allegations scientists Piero Anversa and former lab members Annarosa Leri and Jan Kajstura used manipulated and fake data in grant applications. So reports Science Magazine.

The hospital had conducted its own investigation into the alleged misconduct and reported it to the government. Anversa and Leri filed a separate lawsuit against the hospital, among others, for “launching and publicizing” the investigation and wrongly harming their careers. They claimed Kajstura manipulated the data without their knowledge. That lawsuit was dismissed.
