Oakley was sitting near Knicks owner James Dolan and was reported by police to have been making comments directed at Dolan. Oakley disputed that version of the events in an interview conducted after his release from custody. Clippers coach Doc Rivers, who played with Oakley in the mid-90’s, lauded Oakley as a teammate, described the scene as “sad” and said in all his years in the league he’s never seen anything like the events that unfolded.
