Three of the settlement’s recipients—Devon Ayers, Michael Cosme and Carlos Perez—had been convicted in the 1995 murders of Baithe Diop, a livery cab driver who was shot to death in his car, and Denise Raymond, who was shot to death in her apartment.
The two other settlement recipients, Eric Glisson and Cathy Watkins, were each convicted only in Diop’s killing. All of the plaintiffs’ convictions were vacated. An investigator in New York City’s violent crimes unit eventually learned that members of a narcotics gang had admitted to fatally shooting a livery cab driver in a case that matched Diop’s murder.
